Governance

Christ Episcopal School is a mission and ministry of Christ Episcopal Church, a parish church in the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana.

By national and diocesan canon, the Rector is charged with the leadership of the church and school and is the presiding officer of the church vestry. The Head of School operates such on the Rector’s behalf under the direct supervision of the school’s board of trustees whose authority derives from and is subject to the vestry.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for:

• Developing basic policies for the school
• Employing and evaluating the performance of the Head of School
• Carrying out continuous evaluation of the school
• Ensuring that the finances of the school are administered in a fiscally responsible manner
• Reporting on a regular basis to the Vestry
• Adhering to all policies of the Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana
• Keeping an accurate record of all Board proceedings.
• Separating trustee decisions from personal or family interests and supporting the Head of School and the School as a whole
• Not speaking or acting on behalf of the school in any official, binding capacity without having first obtained the approval of the Board
• Maintaining confidentiality when appropriate of School or School Board information gained as a result of Board service
