General Sessions

Early Pre-k: Busy Bee Experiences

This is our only camp session that is restricted to Christ Episcopal School students. Students entering Early Pre-k at CES will enjoy a daily schedule of arts and crafts as well as music and movement. We will enjoy opportunites for outdoor play balanced with periods of inside calming quiet time.  The limited number allows us to help these young children transition to a camp experience while enjoying activities, snacks, and lunch time on a schedule that is just our pace! Campers must be potty trained and already registered to attend CES Busy Bees in the fall. (Limit 12)

Pre-k – 1st grade (Child must be turning 4 by the start of camp; for early Pre-k, see above)

Students entering Pre-k through 1st grade will have a daily schedule of thematic activities that foster creativity, active learning, and exploration. Some of the activities include art, science, music, fun and games, canoeing and water days. Themes this year include Louisiana Down on the Bayou (Week 1), Dinosaurs (Week 2), and Around the World (Week 3).

Grades 2-7

Students in grades 2-7  will choose one grade-appropriate morning session and one afternoon session. Activities in each session will vary week-to-week for those students attending more than one week. Campers are divided into grades 2-4 and grades 4-7 (fourth grade campers may choose between the younger and older age groups). Campers in grades 2-7 will choose from among the following morning and afternoon sessions:

*NEW* Dynamic Rhythm (Grades 2-4) Campers will develop confidence, creativity, teamwork skills, and communication skills while being introduced to Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, and New Orleans rhythms. Campers will learn these rhythms primarily on hand drums and percussion, and will also be introduced to concepts on guitar and piano. This class is taught by CES music teacher Mr. Cedar Howard. (Class size is limited to 15.)

*NEW* Intro to Chess (Grades 2-4) Campers will learn the values of good sportsmanship, patience, and problem solving while playing the wonderful game of chess. They will be introduced to opening theory, endgame strategy, and checkmate patterns. There will also be a tournament at the end of the week with prizes available! (Class size limited to 15).

Art – rageous! (Grades 2-4) Walk on the wild side with arts and crafts. Make Rembrandts, pottery, t-shirts, and hats. Campers will splatter, sculpt, build, and more with all different types of materials galore. Bring your imagination and wear old clothes. You might even get some paint on your toes! (Class size is limited to 15.)

Mish Mash (Grades 2-4) Do you like to try new things? Activities in this session will vary day-to-day, from making homemade ice cream and constructing catapults to creating origami and paper airplanes. Learn new games and skills, and make delicious treats. (Class size is limited to 15.)

Robotics (Grades 2-4, afternoon only) Campers will learn to build their own robots using Legos, gears, wheels, tires, electric motors, sensors, micro-switches, electrical cables, and much, much more. Campers will then learn to program their robots to become fully functional. In this class we will be using EV3 robots. (Class size is limited to 15.)

Sports, Games, and Adventure (Grades 2-4, morning only) Campers will discover new interests and talents as they participate in games with team and individual sports. The emphasis will be on improving skills, getting exercise, and having fun. There will be canoeing, hockey, soccer, basketball, dodge ball, rope climbing, and many more sports-oriented activities. Come join us and be prepared to get your heart pumping! (Class size is limited to 20.)

Wacky Science (Grades 2-5) Campers will learn how to be young scientists by exploring science in interactive and creative ways. We will engage in fun and craft-like science activities and experiments. (Class size is limited to 15.)

*NEW*Dynamic Rhythm (Grades 4-7) Campers will develop confidence, creativity, teamwork skills, and communication skills while being introduced to Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, and New Orleans rhythms. Campers will learn these rhythms primarily on hand drums and percussion, and will also be introduced to concepts on guitar and piano. This class is taught by CES music teacher Mr. Cedar Howard. (Class size is limited to 15.)

*NEW* Intro to Chess (Grades 4-7) Campers will learn the values of good sportsmanship, patience, and problem solving while playing the wonderful game of chess. Mega-Artrageous – (Grades 4-7) Campers will spend their days choosing from a wealth of art projects ranging from the fine arts to funky crafts. Campers will investigate painting, sculpture, construction, fibers, up-cycling, and much more, enjoying the gift of time to be really creative. Campers are welcome to give suggestions on project choices, and may want to develop a special idea of their own. We are going to rock the art room this summer! (Class size is limited to 15.)

Robotics (Grades 4-7, morning only) Campers will learn to build their own robots using Legos, gears, wheels, tires, electric motors, sensors, micro-switches, electrical cables, and much, much more. Campers will then learn to program their robots to become fully functional. In this class we will be using EV3 robots. Robotics experience is preferred but not required. (Class size is limited to 15.)

Come join us and be prepared to get your heart pumping! (Class size is limited to 20.)

Stop-motion Animation (grades 4 -7, afternoon only) This animation technique is used to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Each camper will develop a personalized storyboard and choose materials to create his or her own animated film. (Class size is limited to 12.)
