In the Beginning
Christ Episcopal School was established in 1984 as an outreach mission of Christ Episcopal Church. On opening day, August 29, 1984, there was a total school population of 34 students in grades one through four. By the end of the year, enrollment climbed to 45...then 90...and so the story goes.
There have been many momentous occasions and changes which have taken place over the years at Christ Episcopal School: adding pre-kindergarten and eighth grades, moving to the CBC, celebrating 10th, 20th and 25th anniversaries, inception of Art at the Park, accreditation with ISAS and SAES followed by two re-accreditation visits, changes in leadership at school and church, a barn, Hurricane Katrina, "snow" days, "flood" days, and even a tornado, sports programs, cheerleaders, drama productions, choir, the addition of ninth grade, then tenth, then eleventh, and now twelfth. Fast forward to today, and a new building is being erected at the CBC called the Center of Inquiry. It will be completed in time for opening day in August, and it is quite a structure.
But the story gets better. The next chapter will begin with a celebration - our first high school graduation - which will take place on Friday, May 17th, at 6:30 p.m., not coincidentally, at the same location where it all began in 1984. Guess you could say the school has come full circle.
While small in number, these six fine students chose the road less traveled, stayed with us, placed their trust in the faculty and administration to do the right thing by them, and will now forever be a part of the school's history. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the class of 2013 who along with their parents, helped to steady the course and pave the way for those to follow. We thank you and wish all good things to come your way. God bless.
Congratulations to William Samuel Batson, Graham Madison Beck, Matthew McComiskey Murphy, Amanda Lynn Savage, Mason Ross Sheen, and Clayton Mysing Williams.
On Thursday, May 23rd, we will celebrate our Pentecost and closing Eucharist at the CBC. Middle school awards will also be presented after Eucharist. Proper attire is required.
No Hassles, No Lines - Just Convenience
Once again, our school has teamed up with Innisbrook to simplify back-to-school shopping. CESPA and the CES teachers have created custom back-to-school packs for the 2013-2014 school year. By taking advantage of this one stop shopping opportunity, you will have peace of mind that your child's supplies will be waiting for him/her on the first day of school. Ordering instructions will be sent home this week and posted to the CES Sycamore website.
• If your child will be a student at the ECC, ordering is mandatory. The pack price is $65.75, and Mrs. Gardner is accepting payment by check only payable to CES.
• If your child is entering grades 1-4, ordering is mandatory, and packs may be purchased online or by turning in a check to the office payable to CES. Check payment is due by May 24th and online orders will be accepted until May 31st.
• If your child is entering 5th grade or 6th-8th, ordering through school is optional and packs may be purchased only online (no checks, please). If you would prefer to buy your supplies elsewhere, the lists are located on Sycamore.

Wednesday Connection...Coming This Fall!
Beginning on Wednesday, September 4th, Christ Church will be offering an exciting weekly opportunity called the Wednesday Connection for play, study, and prayer. With both time together and time in age appropriate settings, we gather to learn about how we as the church are "the Body of Christ" and to learn life lessons for forming strong and enriched character for authentic Christian living. All ages will be included. We have a nursery for infant through kindergarten; Slide In, a new experience for first through third grades, Blast Off for fourth thru fifth, JR CCY for sixth through eighth, SR CCY for ninth thru twelfth, and three adult formation groups. At Christ Episcopal School, a Church Affiliated Aftercare will be provided for grades 4th through 12th. A shuttle from the Christ Episcopal School campus will depart at 4:40pm. Further details will follow regarding individual programs at the beginning of August. Dinner will be available for all.
We hope you will want to come because your six year old can learn about the Daniel in the Lion's Den in a way that teaches him courage. Your ten or eleven year old will learn how better to navigate social media. You're twelve year old will have a place to talk about relationships. Your 16 year old will have a place, peers, and great leaders to help discuss his or her personal identity. You will want to come because as a parent you can explore your own spiritual life as you work to teach your children. You will want to come because learning to live a faithful Christian life in the real world is more difficult than once you thought. You want to come because at your age you enjoy being around people of all ages. You will want to come because you want to be fed.
All of us will share in this experience by providing a meal, occasionally watching children on the playground, or helping to facilitate a class, or sharing whatever your gifts, God has given you. We look forward to seeing you!
Please find attached additional details regarding scheduling. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call Mary Anne Reidy, Parish Life Director, at 985-789-6315 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

The festival was part of a program staged by WorldStrides Heritage Performance. The judges included Dr. Ben Ayling (Ohio Northern University), Dr. John Haberlen (Georgia State University), Dr. Ryan Hourigan (Ball State University), Dr. Richard Fischer (Concordia University, Chicago), Dr. Robert Gregg (Belmont University), and Dr. Timothy Gene Yontz (Wheaton College).
