How does the admissions process begin?
First, contact the admissions office to request a packet of information or to set up a tour of the school. Included in the packet is an Application for Admission, which must be completed and returned with a non-refundable, $100.00 application fee. In order to ensure the fairness and integrity of the evaluation process, only applications received by November 1st will be considered for admission to the following school year. After that date, applications will be considered if space is available at the desired grade level. Once the application is completed and returned to the school, what is the next step?
- You will receive a written confirmation of your application.
- In early January of the school year of entry, screenings and class visits will be scheduled for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade applicants. In addition, teacher recommendation and parent forms will need to be completed.
- Kindergarten applicants are screened with regard to their developmental maturity. This assessment is conducted by a trained examiner who utilizes a respected assessment tool to make discriminating observations of a child's behavior and then evaluates these observations by comparison with normative patterns developed for each developmental age. The cost of the screening is $70.
- Class visits for applicants in grades 1-8 will be scheduled, transcripts will be requested and teacher recommendation forms will need to be completed once available space is determined. A standards-based testing program called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is also required for students entering grades 4-8 and is administered at the Christwood Blvd. Campus. A decision on acceptance will not be made without receipt of all paperwork.
How many students are enrolled in each class? Pre-kindergarten consists of two levels based on developmental maturity. Once the children are screened, they will be placed in either the pre-kindergarten level (three sections) or young four-year-old level (one section). The three sections of pre-kindergarten have full-time assistants as well as a separate instructor for art, music and movement skills. The young four-year-old level is smaller in size, has an available assistant as well as a separate instructor for art, music and movement skills. Kindergarten consists of three (3) sections, All sections of kindergarten have an assistant. Grades 1 through 4 consist of three (3) sections of each grade with extra personnel assigned at various levels to provide more individualized attention during these critical developmental years. Grades 5-7 consist of two sections of each grade with schedules that often split the group into thirds for math and language-related activities. Our 8th grade program is typically small and consists of only one (1) section.
←Back to the top How many students are typically admitted to each grade?
The most common entry point for an applicant is Pre-kindergarten. If all of our Pre-kindergarten students progress to kindergarten, we will have approximately seven (7) seats available to new students at that level. Availability in grades 1-3 is based on space created by student vacancies. Grades 4-8 offer new admits if space allows. In all cases, the most important factor is the match between the school and the applicant. Family situations change yearly. It is never a waste of time to apply for admission to the next year's class. Is there a priority selection process for admissions?
The school is committed to enrolling a diverse and balanced student body. We welcome students of all races, creeds, national or ethnic origins. Our first consideration is to ensure that every student admitted is capable of handling a rigorous academic curriculum happily and successfully. If all other factors are equal, we do give some consideration to families with previous ties to Christ Episcopal School or Church. What is the notification process?
The Board of Trustees's will set tuition for the following school year at its January meeting. Contracts for our returning students are then mailed with a due date February. As soon as we are able to determine availability at various grade levels, we will contact parents via mail with a two week window to return the contract and enrollment fee. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten applicants will receive notification upon completion of the formal screening process for the applicant pool.
What if my child qualifies for admission but space is not available? Your child will be placed on the "wait list." As openings develop, the wait list candidates are contacted to determine interest. Because vacancies can develop unexpectedly, acceptances sometimes occur even as late as the end of August. Christ Episcopal School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. ←Back to the top
